Type of mantis is Idolomantis Diabolica, or the Devil's Flower Mantis.

APPEARANCE:

The image above is to show her entire body, normally she's wearing a light cloth around her waist, and various forms of jewelry. (The skirt-cloth-thing is just to cover her "nether latch" for no other reason than to hide the fact that it has poka-dots.)

Merlo is very tall, despite how she looks in the above image. Aside from Granita she is the tallest in the troupe.

Much of Merlo's body is either armored, or has spines. The most awkward being the bottom edge of the plate that starts under her breasts and circles the ribcage. The edges that lift off the body are covered in tiny, razor sharp spines. Normally her secondary arms would be wrapped around her lower ribcage to prevent catching herself, but when a threat is sensed she folds them back and curls the claw over her shoulders. The nub under her left arm is actually the remains of her other secondary arm. She lost it in a battle some time ago. Most of her armor is down the front of her body, and then down her spine, most of her sides and upper chest are actually open. Her primary arms are slender and more human-like, three spikes on either arm are used for defense. Her index finger on each primary hand is long, ending with a dangerous claw, the other two fingers and her thumb are decidedly less dangerous. Despite the giant finger-claw, she can be rather gentle with her primary hands. Secondary arm and claw are used for defense, attacking, looking dangerous, and helping to lift heavy things. Despite being an armored brow-bone, it's surprisingly flexible and able to assist in showing various emotions, mostly annoyance. Her antlers are thicker than an average female's should be. Her wings are bland on the back side, but have a pattern on the outside, I was just too lazy to color it in.

Artist comments: SHE HAS TOO MANY COLORS. I do not recommend coloring her. Ever. Her coloration is bright for the mantis she's modeled after. Other references I've found are decidedly less colorful, and more of a tan color.

PERSONALITY:

Cranky. Very cranky. Anyone would be when they're missing and arm and have pokadots on their "nether plate". But aside from this normally unhappy and grumpy disposition, she can be kind and gentle with her friends and family. She's a protector, and watches out for the members of the caravan she rides with. While still less then enthusiastic about people she doesn't know, she's still not attempting to destroy your soul for asking the time, so it's an improvement to when she first joined up with the caravan. Slowly but surely she's learning people skills. It's a daily learning lesson, so give her some time and perhaps she may just humor you. She's the calmest, and the easiest to speak with, during very early morning, when the dew is still on everything. When threatened or in danger she reverts back to her natural attitude, that being to rip off the arms of anything attacking and ask questions later.

LIKES: Fruit, nice quiet places, dawn's first lights when dew is still thick on everything, her caravan and the people within, Myrians (all their tiny legs fascinate her, no one is sure why.)
DISLIKES: Just about everything else, seriously. Thick mud and being sick are pretty high on the list of things she hates though.

NAME: Loam
SEX: Male (Yes, male.)
AGE: 19
RACE: Scarabin

Type of insect is a Harmonia Axyridis, or Ladybug

APPEARANCE:

Contrary to popular belief, Loam is indeed male.

He has various female features, most notably the curvy back end, but remove that nether plate and you will indeed find male bits. He's lightly armored and dainty in size. His wings are folded and hidden inside the shell on his back. Though even unfolded they can't lift him very high or for very long. They're simple and weak, but he doesn't mind, he gets around just fine on the ground. His body is compact and light and he's an amazing runner. He won't win the sprint due to short legs, but he'll win the distance. He has an armored forearm on his primary arms, but his hands are bare with white fingertips. Aside from only having three fingers, his hands are very human-like. His secondary arms are very short and stubby. They're only used for helping to balance things he happens to be carrying.

Loam is often seen wearing jewelry of various types and materials. He doesn't particularly "enjoy" much of it aside from the long string of beads Sticks gave him, but it works for his "Fortune Teller" routine.

PERSONALITY:

While not acting as the troupe's fortune teller Loam is a very calm and happy boy. He enjoys napping in bright afternoon sun, picking flowers, playing with his pet flea Herman, and bothering his boy Stick, whom is wrapped firmly around his finger. He's nice and kind and always willing to help, or talk, or sleep in your lap. Easy to smile, and easier to laugh. He's definitely a "huger". While acting though he's strange and mysterious, playing up the Fortune Teller act as best he can. He doesn't speak much, doesn't smile often, the whole shebang.

LIKES: People, his caravan troupe, Sticks (obviously), flowers, his flea Herman (keep in mind it's a girl flea), card games, reading fortunes, acting (playing fortune is acting technically), cool nights.
DISLIKES: Rainy days and damp places, deserts (too dry), not getting paid for his services (a beetle has to eat you know), when Merlo calls him "the laby-boy", spiders (who DOESN'T dislike spiders? really?)

APPEARANCE:

Granita is a very slim woman with long, slender arms, and the graceful legs of a hopper. She uses them well in her job as dancer. Her armor is scarce, and rather elegant. A thick fur "collar" lines her neck and upper chest and matches the thick fur that grows at the base of her long legs. Though due to being very light on armor, she's used to wearing clothing due to her lady bit peeking out of her nether plate. It doesn't both her much though, she's a fan of accessorizing. Normally she's clad in various pieces of dangling jewelry and very gypsy-like clothing.

Her hair is only shoulder-length and very fine. The armor over her face has two antler-like horns that have actually grown crooked. She also has two longer antlers that are covered in a very fine fur the lengthens at the ends. Her legs are very horse-like, especially with the fur at the bottoms. Her wings aren't very long, but are rather showy, catching lantern light very well when giving night shows. Primary arms are longer than a human's and very slender. Secondary arms appear fragile due to the thinness of them, the hands on these arms, though usable, only have two fingers and a thumb, so they aren't as dexterous as her primary hands.
