| I just caught a Katydid that was resting on my porch's support beam <3 he hadn't moved since last night, so I couldn't resist the temptation to catch the little fellow! I can't tell if it's male or female yet, but I know what species it is. It's a fork-tailed bush katydid :3 Sad thing is that the little guy is missing both his hind legs :/ he's impaired with only four limbs! eeeek! He's about the length of a female's pinkie finger, maybe a little smaller. So adorable!! I've got him/her in an empty stuffing-container (cylindrical), while I plan and try to get a more permanent, see-through cage for them >x3 this is the little guy <3 I really want to name it :3 any ideas? Please pick gender neutral names! <3 | |

| Just found out the little fellow is female, due to this round thing coming off her rear, haha. Guys lack that and have a few little spikes sticking out instead. So, what shall we name her? Some pictures <3 Eating for the first time under my care! <3 Ohnoes, battle-scar! D: I plan to make a locun based off of her Settled in her little cage I got for her this afternoon <3 She looked straight at the camera for this one! | |

| I actually was going for something with a 'K', due to the fact I plan to make her character Katy's mother :3 Was to be Koralyn, but now I like Kekoa. She is such a little trooper. Not very ferocious though. Very slow-going. freaks out if I touch her back though. she likes touching my fingers with her antennae tho :3
Saw her doing something odd this morning, with her ovipositor shifted, so I immediately grabbed my phone and snapped a picture, and then I realized she wasn't laying eggs, she was pooping >xD laughed my butt off..

| Just found out Kekoa won't be regrowing her back legs :/ Asked some folk who research bugs and they said that she won't. sad day....
"Hi Kaetlin, We believe your identification of a Fork-Tailed Bush Katydid is correct, though we would not entirely discount another member is the genus as several other species may be found in your area according to BugGuide’s data. Kekoa’s legs will not grow back. Leg regeneration is unusual in insects, though some spiders are able to regenerate missing limbs if they are young. The new limb will grow with each new molt. As an adult, Kekoa will not molt again, so her legs will not regenerate."
Makes me sad... but I also feel proud that I saved her from the outside. I really don't think she would have lasted long without her hopper-legs. She can move kind of fast in her cage, but she's not confident with long gaps. I rarely see her jump, and her tank is maybe 4 or 5 inches tall. Well... One thing that makes me happy as well, is that WTB (what's that bug?) actually posted my inquiry this time, haha. The past one of her I sent in they never noticed, and another before that of a little house spider I'd never seen before (well, it was a drawing, but still, worse drawings have been posted). Poo.
